Three pallets and one can of polyurethane can make a heck of a coffee table. Especially for a cheap bastid like me.

I like to be careful with pallets. What they are soaked in to preserve them, and other nasty shit in them. Also if they are safe I use them to false look, I use wood that has structure for the main structure.

These were all heat treated and not brominated. You absolutely have to be picky. If there’s no HT stamp on them they can’t be used.

I just learned something today. What does the heat treated stamp look like?

Looks good!

I’m laughing at your display name. I loved that part of the episode.

It’s not just the heat treatment. When I worked for a chemical plant, it wasn’t unusual for chemical to get on the pallets. While they were supposed to be treated as hazardous waste, it was’t unusual for them to be loaded up and shipped out. Who knows where they went from there. We also received some really nasty pallets. If they were structurally sound, they were loaded up with materials and shipped out. If they were broken, they were added to a pile. I have no idea where they went once they made it to that pile.

I don’t think I would use pallets in my home. Perhaps as material for a work bench or shelving in the garage, but definitely not in my home.

I got a nice heat treated from work for free a while back that looked like it had only been used one time to ship something to us, with every intention of doing something like this, but it just sat in the back yard and now is all nasty. Very nice project.
